The California Deer Association (CDA) has increased
to 20 the number of free antlerless deer hunts that
will be given away to junior hunters this year.
The Sharing the Tradition program is the largest
private junior deer hunting program in California.
The deer hunts are given out through a free, random
drawing which is open to all junior hunters with
a valid California junior hunting license and unfilled
deer tag. These hunts are made possible through
the cooperative effort of CDA and the Tejon Ranch
and with support from Winchester Ammunition.
The hunts will take place in November on the 270,000
acre Tejon Ranch located in the mountains just south
of Bakersfield, California. These are fully-guided
hunts and include lodging on the ranch for the junior
and their adult companion.
Winners will be randomly drawn. There is no cost
to enter the drawing. The normal hunt or access
fee will not be charged. Five junior hunters will
hunt on each of the four hunt dates. This is a drawing
conducted by CDA, not the California Department
of Fish & Game.
CDA's Sharing the Tradition junior deer hunt program
was started in 2004 when 10 deer hunts were available
on the Tejon Ranch. Last year 15 juniors were drawn
for the 2005 hunts.
