The
Department of Fish and Game (DFG) and the California
Deer Association (CDA) will host a junior deer hunt
on Sept. 15 and 16 at the Carrizo Plain Ecological
Reserve.
The
junior hunt will be for deer only and is open to hunters
holding a junior hunting license .
Three
junior hunters will be chosen by drawing to participate
and must be accompanied by an adult. The hunting opportunity
includes classroom instruction on wildlife and hunting,
range and field assistance on gun handling, safety and
shooting practice, and information on specific techniques
for deer hunting and game care.
This
hunt opportunity will take place on the 30,000-acre
Chimineas Unit at DFG’s ecological reserve in San Luis
Obispo County.
CDA
volunteers will guide the participants on their hunts
and provide meals for the duration of the two-day event.
Overnight lodging will be available at the main ranch
house on the reserve.
To apply for this hunt, all interested individuals must
submit a single postcard with the hunter’s name, address,
telephone number, and 2007-2008 junior hunting license

All
applications must be received at the above address no
later than 5 p.m., Aug. 16, 2007. Late or incomplete
applications will not be considered in the draw.
Successful
applicants will be notified by phone and will receive
additional information, including maps and special regulations,
prior to their hunt.
